The year had barely started and we received news that on the 4 January Ray Wilson, our long-serving groundsman, had died. Ray took over from Ted Ingram, who was the IBM head gardener, and was very popular and dedicated. He was a real help to the Club in the days before time and motion and 'elf 'n safety! He spent a lot of time working on the square and outfield, and will be remembered by the older Club members as a true friend of IBM Cricket.

Another good week of weather saw matches across all the age groups. The adult midweek team lost narrowly to Holybourne on Tuesday evening. The 1st XI match on Saturday was not played as North Baddesley withdrew from the league but the 2nd XI recorded a solid victory over Hungerford. Sunday morning saw the U9s losing to Tichborne Park and both the U11s and U13s playing a Trojans B side with the U11s losing and the U13 team winning their match convincingly. Sunday afternoon saw a commanding performance by the senior side to beat Bournemouth Wanderers convincingly in a friendly fixtures.

4 June 2013
School half term and the week started with the midweek league fixture against Castaways being cancelled due to rain. Player availability for the weekend was a bit of a worry but we somehow managed to get 2 full squads out for the Hampshire League matches on Saturday. The mens 1st XI won their match against Hursley Park IIIs but the 2nd XI unfortunately suffered their first defeat against Broughton. Sunday morning and the U9s were at home to Hedge End, their first home match, but they unfortunately lost by 118 runs. The U13s played a plate match against Southampton Community which they won by 36 runs. A full week of fixtures for all teams this week as the children go back to school.

The results and match reports pages have also been updated to reflect the most current results.

20 May 2013
Another week of dry weather and plenty of cricket. The adult midweek match against Holybourne did not take place as Holybourne could not raise a team. On Friday, the U15s lost their 1st round cup match to a much stronger Otterbourne A side. Saturday saw the mens 1st XI take another victory, this time against Waterlooville IIs while the 2nd XI tied their match against Michelmersh and Timsbury IIIs. Sunday morning saw the Under 9s win away to Compton & Chandlers Ford, the Under 11s lose away to Andover B and the Under13s dominated against Amport in a home match, the first to be played on the new artificial wicket. The adult friendly against Winchester University unfortunately did not take place as the opposition did not show up. The junior results and match reports are on the website with the seniors to follow shortly.

A new 'all-weather' wicket was commissioned at the end of last season, and the old one was dug up and replaced today. This is the third version, the first being laid back in 1979.

12 May 2013
A week of cricket that saw almost all the sides turning out for a game. The seniors kicked off with a victory against Millers in the evening league on Tuesday. The U15s then lost their match to Compton and Chandlers Ford on Friday before both the senior teams opened their Hampshire league campaigns with victory. The U9s match was called off as their opposition withdrew from the league. The U11s were victorious against Trojans but the U13s suffered a heavy defeat to St Cross A. The final match of the week, the adult friendly on Sunday, was called off as a result of the rain on Sunday afternoon.

06 May 2013
The bank holiday weekend brought more sunshine and dry weather allowing all age groups to enjoy some cricket this weekend. The first to go were the U15s who narrowly lost to Sparsholt on Friday evening. Saturday saw the second intra-club match which was followed by a BBQ and it was brilliant to see a number of families from the colts section joining in. Sunday morning saw the U11s lose their league match to Hursley Park. The U13s suffered a similar fate although, luckily for them, the match was played as a "friendly" with Otterbourne already having forfeited the fixture earlier in the week. The U9s however opened up their 2013 account with a brilliant victory over Twyford. Match reports and results have been updated.
This week sees the adult leagues kicking off with a midweek league match tomorrow evening and the first of the Hampshire league matches on the weekend. The colts also have a full schedule with matches scheduled for all age groups over the weekend. Let's hope the weather stays dry.

01 May 2013
The cricket season is now in full swing. The weekend saw our senior team take on Highfield in a friendly match where they were unfortunately beaten. The colts season also kicked off this weekend but our U13 fixture was unfortunately called off as the opposition pitch was not in a fit state for play. Our U11s however kicked off their season with a very convincing 70 run victory over Sparsholt on Monday evening. This coming weekend sees a full round of cricket for the juniors with the club's first U15 match being played on Friday followed by the U9s, U11s and U13s who are all scheduled to play on Sunday morning. In between the junior matches we have an intra-club match scheduled for Saturday afternoon featuring adults and colts followed by a BBQ. Let's hope the weather forecast is accurate and we all get to enjoy some cricket.

02 July 2012
After so many weeks of rain affected fixtures we finally had a week of cricket for both our senior and junior sides. The seniors kicked off with a win on Tuesday over Castaways in the Wilds Sports 20/20 league and then followed that up with a convincing victory over Dinton on Saturday in the Hampshire League. The colts then had their turn on Sunday where for the first time we managed to field a team in each of the 3 age categories on the same day. The Under 9s kicked off by beating St Cross Symondians at home in fine style. The Under 11s were away to Amport for the semi-final of the District Plate competition. They put in a brilliant performance to beat Amport by 12 runs and advance to the finals. The Under 13s also had a plate semi-final away to Otterbourne. They put up a good fight but unfortunately lost by 70 runs. Match reports have been updated.

03 June 2012
Another dry week and mixed fortunes once again for our senior teams but an excellent week for our junior teams. The midweek side kicked off proceeedings with a loss to Hursley Park in the Tichborne Cup on Monday and followed that with another loss against Holybourne in the Wilds Sports League on Tuesday evening. The Colts started their week with a convincing win for the U11s against Hedge End at home on Thursday evening. On Saturday, it was the turn of the seniors who recorded another resounding victory in the Hampshire League, this time at home to Hungerford. The U13s then played brilliantly to beat Bishops Waltham on Sunday morning. All results and match reports are now available.

28 May 2012
We finally had a dry week with all the fixtures on the calendar being fulfilled. The week kicked off with the adults playing Chawton at home in the Wilds Sports League. With Chawton turning out some Southern Premier League players, they were always going to be a challenging team to beat but we ran them close eventually losing by only 11 runs. On Thursday evening, the colts had their turn with the U11s playing Easton & Martyr Worthy. Despite a brave batting performance, the 130 runs that Easton & MW had put on was always going to be a challenge and we came up 46 runs short. IBM Hursley's fortunes then swung the other way with the seniors leading the way on Saturday in the Hampshire league with a resounding victory over Stockbridge at Leckford before the U13s produced a solid effort on Sunday morning to finish their away match to Hedge End in a tie. IBM Hursley took the win on account of losing fewer wickets and they are now through to the semi-final of the district plate competition. The U9s also produced a winning performance beating Twyford convincingly in a home match on Sunday morning. Match reports are now available for the senior matches.

03 May 2012
On the 19 April 2012 Norman Chandler passed away. Norman was one of the founder members of the Club, and father of Steve, who played for us for many years. A useful leg-spinner, his last recorded match was in 1965, and his top performance was 6-19 (including a hat-trick) against Hursley Park on the 8 July 1963. Norman was a feisty character, and his last game was at the Castle ground in Winchester where, after declining the offer to bowl the last over before tea on a hot afternoon, he marched off, and didn't play again. He did, however, maintain a keen interest in the Club, and often came to the ground and observed from the boundary.

08 February 2012
In late January we heard the sad news that The IBM Club's original Administrator, Dee Osman, had died. In the early days it was the custom to invite the Club Administrator to the Annual Dinner as Honorary Guest, and to present the Awards. Dee was an enthusiastic supporter of the Cricket Club and took a keen interest. The day that Southgate's Alan Jenner paraded in front of her office dressed only in batting gloves, pads, and Box, would have stayed with her forever.
