2011 Friendly Match Report - Highfield (Oct)

Match Report:
Hursley won by 1 wicket

Well, last week wasn't the final game of the season. Another game was arranged after a heat-wave descended over the country, and it was a good chance to set a new 'World Record' for the latest-date-in-the-season played. A 40 over-a-side match, starting at 12.45pm was planned, and Highfield agreed to set the target. Opener James Newell (58) batted steadily, but only the Afghan Zia Nori (16), and skipper Fawed Ahmed (22 not out) provided much support as they were restricted to 145-8 (Nick Wood 3-20) at tea. The 'Champagne Moment' was provided by young George McRobert who took a fine catch in the covers. The IBM top order disintegrated to 15-4 before Mike Pollard (41) and Matt Campbell (56 not out) pulled things around, though it was left to Nick Wood to block a few before the winning run came in the 33rd over. 146-9 (Ben Wythe 3-20).
