IBM Hursley III v Sarisbury Athletic V (11th June 2016)
IBM won the toss, and with rain in the air and a grassy pitch, asked Sarisbury to bat first. The opening bowling pair of Ashley Cocking (9-0-30-1) and Kaush Kundu (9-4-29-1) bowled tightly, restricting the hosts to only 19 off the first 10 overs. The bowling continued to be tight with Jeff Yarney at one end (8-2-22-0) and Robbie Cocking at the other (5-1-16-0), and at drinks Sarisbury had limped along to 54 without loss. The first wicket was taken by William Robbins (5-0-18-1), clean bowling the opener, with the score on 78 in the 26th. Wickets were tough to get, however we plugged away and Sarisbury closed on 160/4 from their 42 overs.
IBM set about chasing down 161 steadily and Jim Stewart (44) and William Robbins (10) laid the foundation as they put on 51 for the first wicket. We lost our second shortly after and Robbie Cocking (57*) went in at #4 and continued to support Jim well. Jim fell in 23rd with the score on 89 which brought skip Andy Cocking (29*) to the crease. Runs began to flow freely from both batsman and the father-son pairing polished off the remaining 72 in just 9 overs, with IBM reaching their target of 161 with the loss of only 3 wickets with 10 overs remaining to give the 3's their second consecutive win.
The juniors continue to impress in the field, with bat and ball. I think Sarisbury were a little shell shocked that they had been so comfortably beaten by such a young side. An historic day, with all 3 teams winning was added too by (we believe) the first 50 by a current IBM Colt in the Hampshire League - may this be the beginning of even better things to come - oh and it was Rob Lamprey's birthday to add to the celebrations after!
