IBM Hursley III v Sarisbury Athletic VI (4th June 2016)
The Third XI faced Sarisbury VI on Saturday at Wide Lane. Both teams fielded what appeared to be roughly equal teams in terms of adults and colts and it looked like we were in for a good game of cricket. What followed proved exactly that....
IBM went into field first. Debutant Daniel Radford (8-2-18-4) opened the bowling with William Robbins (5-1-20-0) and Sarisbury were soon 2 wickets down with just 5 overs bowled. By drinks, they were on 70 for 4. Mahadevan Ramanan bowled some tight overs (6-2-8-3) towards then end of their innings and a couple of their lower order batters knocked up decent scores in the 20's. Sarisbury finished on 150 all out off the last bowl of their innings to grab their next batting point.
With it all to do, Mike Cox (7) and William Robbins (28) came to the crease to open our batting and we were soon ticking along nicely, virtually matching the Sarisbury run rate over by over. At drinks we were on 87 for 4 before Josh White came to the crease. Josh batted like a demon from the outset and racked up a quick 34 runs (6 4's and one of the biggest 6's ever seen) before being caught. We started to look a little shakey when we were 8 wickets down and on 109 after the 27th over when Mahadevan Ramanan and Muhammad Basit (on debut) came to the crease. Muhammad knocked up a fairly quick 32 runs (not out) and with Ram scoring 17 (not out) we reached the target to win in the 33rd over.
There was a fantastic buzz around the pitch after the match, having taken the Thirds to their first ever win. It was a wonderful cricket match played in great spirit with fabulous encouragement from the adults for our Colts in both the fielding and batting. Well done to everyone!
