IBM Hursley III vs Locks Heath IV (7th May 2016)
Locks Heath won the toss and put IBM into bat first. We were off to a shaky start after the loss of our two opening batsmen for only 3 runs. Rob Lamprey (21) came to the crease with Robbie Cocking (15) to ease the IBM nerves. Ashley Cocking put on 26 runs and Ram with 29 runs further steadied the IBM batting nerves. The highlight of the IBM batting line-up came in the 8th partnership with James Lamprey (just 13 years old) on debut (44) and Jeff Yarney (22) knocking up an impressive 75 partnership between them. Our final batsmen saw us through to see out our 42 overs and we finished on 187 for 9.
The opening batting pair for Locks Heath looked formidable, scoring 48 and 61 (112 partnership) before their first wicket fell in the 17th over when their opening batsman was bowled by William Robbins on debut. Our Colts took up the challenge with the bowling with Ashley Cocking taking 3 wickets for 22 runs (6 overs), William Robbins taking 2 wickets for 19 runs (5 overs), James Lamprey 1 wicket for 14 runs (3 overs) and Tom Stevens bowling one over and taking one wicket for just 3 runs. Locks Heath felt under pressure but scraped over the line in the 33rd over after the loss of 8 of their wickets to take the win.
The match was played in great spirit and the opposition Captain commented to the scorer how much better we played today than when they faced us last year and how well our Colts played. Our Colts did us proud again with great performances both with the bat and ball. This bodes well for the season ahead....
