IBM Hursley III vs Rowner II (14th May 2016)
After a frantic change of location we ended up playing Rowner II's in Stubbington. Skip lost the toss and was asked to bowl on a very green wicket. Our opening pair of Ashley Cocking (10-2-27-0) and William Robbins (10-0-42-0) bowled tightly restricting Rowner to only 29 off the opening 11 overs, however we couldn't break the opening partnership until the 19th over, with the score 70, when we took out both openers with 2 fantastic catches at point by Robbie Cocking (one of them airborne that Jonty Rhodes would have been proud of!). Rowner continued to move along steadily, and in the 42'nd over we built the pressure as they only needed 4 runs for the extra point and us a wicket for our bowling point! We won the little battle with Ram taking a wicket and conceding only 3 runs. Rowner finished on 174/6. Ash and William were supported by Robbie (7-0-25-2) - this included being hit for 6 on the first ball in his opening 2 overs!!, Jeff (9-2-2-43) and Ram (6-0-35-1).
After my first ever tea from a 'mini-container', IBM took up the task of chasing down 175, and after last weeks 180+ the mood was good. A few steady overs from Iain Robbins (21) and Josh (5) saw us get off to the right start, however with the score on 12 in the 4th we lost our first wicket closely followed by the second. Wickets continued to fall at very regular intervals, and the final one went down in the 22nd over leaving skip Andy Cocking stranded on 17no.
Food for thought - the bowling, fielding and energy in the field was outstanding. Last weeks game on artificial may have influenced a few shots that probably should have been left on the plastic in Royal Victoria Country park - 6 of our wickets were bowled. However again the juniors are proving their worth, and they will learn from games like these.
